AniMalcolm by David Baddiel

Ok, so this is the first one of David Baddiel's books that I have read with my son and I really wasn't sure what to expect.

The book focuses on Malcolm, a boy who really doesn't like animals whilst the rest of his family love them.

Malcolm's parents save hard to send him on the residential school trip which is great, until Malcolm finds out that the trip is to a farm.

Whilst at the farm Malcolm meets K-Pax, a goat that has magical powers and is put through three days of torment which see Malcolm take on the forms of various animals including a tortoise, cat, sheep, pig, pidgeon and chinchilla.

The plot sounds a little odd, and to be fair it is!  But in between the various incarnations Malcolm makes a string of animal friends that help him escape from the farm and make his way home.

David Baddiel puts in enough humor, both for the children and the adults, to keep you going and you can, quite easily, enjoy the book.

Whilst being quite possibly one of the oddest plots I have read for some time I would happily read another book from David Baddiel - indeed I am keeping my eye out for one!
